Common Questions and Answers

Do I need counseling/therapy?

Deciding to start psychotherapy is a personal choice.

Life if full of both trials and sparkling moments. Having someone in your corner to provide empathy, understanding, support, help, hope and healing can make all the difference in learning to live your life to its fullest.

If you've been through a life altering trauma and are struggling to get past the strong feelings and thoughts, therapy can help. If your world has been turned upside down due to divorce, empty nest, a shocking diagnosis, etc., therapy provides a safe space to explore and process your feelings, gain insight and take action to feel whole again.

You may benefit from therapy if you are feeling unhappy, overwhelmed, or stuck, or if you are experiencing challenges in your relationships, work, or personal life. Therapy is not only helpful during life transitions such as changes in relationships, employment, or family dynamics, but when grappling with a difficult decision or an existential crisis.

If you answered "yes" to any of these experiences, participating in psychotherapy is an excellent choice to positively support your mental and emotional well-being.

Therapy sessions are tailored to each individual, couple, or teen. Your sessions will be guided by your preferences, personality, goals and comfort level. We also are able to provide a "Super Bill" for you to submit to your insurance provider.

Couples Psychotherapy: $175

Do you take insurance?

Soon, yes. We are currently in the process being able to accept several insurances such as Aetna, Medicare, Blue Cross, and Blue Shield. This process takes time, and we hope to be completed within a couple of months. However, we do also provide Superbills for clients who want to use out-of-network benefits through eligible PPO plans.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a detailed invoice used in healthcare settings that includes information about the services provided to a patient. Typically, it contains codes for diagnoses and procedures (CPT and ICD codes). A superbill serves as a record for insurance claims and reimbursement and is often used by healthcare providers to streamline billing processes.

A superbill is essentially a receipt for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. This is only for PPO plans with out-of-network benefits. PPO plans usually reimburse between 40 and 80 percent after your deductible. Before making an appointment, please check your mental health out-of-network benefits first to find out if you will receive reimbursement, how much you will receive, and how to submit the receipts we give you.

How do I check my out-of-network insurance benefits?

Call the customer service line on back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:

  • Does my plan cover services to out-of-network mental health providers?
  • What is the deductible I have to meet before coverage to an out-of-network provider kicks in?
  • How much will my plan reimburse me after my deductible has been met?
  • How many sessions does my plan cover in a year?
  • How many sessions do I have left?
  • How do I submit the receipt (or superbill) that I have for my sessions in order to receive reimbursement?

Are my sessions confidential?

Yes. We take confidentiality seriously as it is the cornerstone of trust in the therapeutic alliance. Everything discussed with your counselor is confidential, however there are some limited exceptions primarily around safety or a court order.

Exceptions to confidentiality:

  • Where there is a reasonable suspicion of child abuse or elder adult physical abuse
  • Where there is a reasonable suspicion that you may present a danger of violence to others
  • Where there is a reasonable suspicion that you are likely to harm yourself unless protective measures are taken

You should also understand that if the issue of your psychological treatment is raised during a lawsuit, your therapist might be forced by the court to reveal the details of your treatment. In such a case, if your therapist receives a subpoena from an attorney to provide copies of your clinical records, the psychotherapist must claim privilege for you and you:

  • May waive privilege and allow the psychotherapist to provide the subpoenaed information; or
  • May invoke privilege and refuse to allow the release of information. In this case, the trial judge will determine whether your psychotherapist must release information - and the judge can issue a court order which your psychotherapist must obey, despite your protests.

Occasionally during treatment, it may be beneficial to have your therapist share your information or give an update to other professional healthcare providers working with you. For these cases, if you chose to have your providers collaborate, you would need to sign an ROI (release of information) for authorization.
